Brief note on rape of adivasi women

Eleven women of Vakapalli village in Nurmati panchayat of G. Madugula mandal in Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh were raped by personnel of a Greyhounds unit in the village on the morning of August 20 Sep 2007.

Press Release: Visit to the proposed POSCO steel plant area in Orissa

17 Aug 2007
A team of six human rights activists from Andhra Pradesh and New Delhi visited the State of Orissa for two days, on 16th and 17th of August to enquire into the circumstances leading to the people’s opposition to the proposed iron and steel project of Pohang Steel Company Ltd (POSCO) near Paradip, and the response of the State administration and POSCO to the opposition. The team consists of Dr Burra Ramulu, K.Balagopal, V.S.Krishna and K.Sudha of the Human Rights Forum (HRF) of Andhra Pradesh, P.Venkat Rao of Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC) and Dr Bela Bhatia, researcher, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), New Delhi. The following is a brief report of the team.
