During the months  of April and May, I was involved in the El Segundo High School Spring Musical, Little Shop of Horrors. My job was to man the plant that ate all of the main characters. To do this, I had to physically crawl inside the plant and raise the mouth with my body. Inside the plant was a mass of metal bars all held together by duct tape and huge blocks of insulation. The insulation was jammed all over the plant for decoration and to form the shape. Inside the plant reached temperatures of over a 100 degrees. My plant outfit was just black under armor sweat removing clothing, I even kept a beach towel inside.

On the night of one of our last shows, I closed the mouth of the plant to "eat" the owner of the flower shop. When I tried to open the plant's mouth again found I couldn’t. One of the metal poles had broken inside the plant and was caught in another, making it impossible to open the mouth. Because of the tangled poles, the mouth of the plant was crooked and I needed to fix it fast. I had to find the broken pole in the dark, foam and duct tape plant before my next lines. After feeling around in the dark for a few minutes, I finally found the break and fixed the plant when the lights came up for the nest scene. Luckily I was able to continue eating the rest of the characters and the show continued without further problems.
