APARTMENT PATIO DECORATING : DECORATE BARBIE. Apartment Patio Decorating
TIB0001 This is our first night in Toledo, Spain. Our hotel, Hotel Palacio Eugenia de Montijo, was located on a narrow cobblestone street in the city's old district. This made for a charming setting, but it was a challenge to find the hotel given the maze-like layout of Toledo's streets (Spanish cities in general aren't big on street signs either). We drove circles around the town center until we asked for directions (this would become our m.o. as we toured Andalucia in the days to come). There was a festival of patios (I think) going on when we arrived. People draped brightly embroidered shawls and rugs over the wrought iron railings of their apartment windows. Some buildings tacked up silk floral bunting under windows sills. I've read that there is a patio decorating festival or contest in Cordoba in May every year -- maybe this was Toledo's version of it (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The townspeople scattered branches of rosemary and thyme on the streets (this might have been part of the patio festival or part of a religious celebration going on, we weren't sure). As you walked, a wonderful scent wafted up, particularly strong when the cobblestones were warm from a day's worth of sun. The hotel room was very nicely decorated and pretty modern. Maybe too modern...we couldn't find the light switches when we first got there, like the couple in that Hotels.com ad. Eventually we figured it out and rewarded ourselves with champagne from the mini-bar. -Andrea View of my room
I have a room at the top of the house, with a slanting ceiling. It is quite big, and I like it. You can crawl out the windows and get on top of the roof, so I have my own personal sun patio with a view of the London Eye (yes, we live that centrally). Nice feature is my bed spread. Crushed blue velvet, one inch thick, with matching pillows decorated with gold patterns. And gold tassles in the corners... A wee bit over the top, but I like it. Very nice to fall asleep on after Sunday brunches... ;) Must be the most pimping bed in Elephant & Castle.
