[cookies] These are ginger cookies made by my daughter. They were delicious. I like these cookies.... nom nom. It's the other sort of cookie that I have a problem with. I was looking to buy a flash unit for my camera and searched various sites for makes and prices. When I had finished doing this and went onto other unrelated sites I noticed that the embedded adverts in web pages kept offering flash units. I thought this was a coincidence until it kept happening, and I realised that my internet browser was storing cookies of my searches which could be used by other web sites to offer me similar products. I don't know about anyone else but I find that blatant flouting of my privacy a bit unsettling - particularly as the third party cookie setting is set to 'on' as a default on my browser, so I have to elect NOT to send my information to web sites. I initially thought that this technology would improve my browsing experience, but I find it a bit spooky, and can't help thinking that it is more in the interests of the commercial web site, to help them sell more product, than actually improving my web experience. cookies, forever
The girls were highly successful at selling cookies at the neighborhood market. I feel for the girl scout policy makers and actually see their point. -------------- From AP? A North Carolina Girl Scout's plan to use the Internet to generate more cookie sales is crumbling. Eight-year-old Wild Freeborn posted a YouTube video in the hopes of selling enough boxes to send her troop to summer camp. But they said scouting officials told them it violated a ban on Internet sales and asked her to take it down after she scored about 700 orders. Freeborn told NBC's "Today" show Friday that she and her Web designer father, Bryan, had honorable intentions and took orders only from their hometown of Asheville. Her father says the ad was just promoting the cookies, so he thought it was OK. Girl Scouts of the USA spokeswoman Michelle Tompkins say promoting the cookies is fine, but the Freeborns ran into trouble because they posted the order form online. Tompkins says the organization wants to ensure fairness and protect the girls' safety. From AP?
