Widow Skimmer Dragonfly
21 August 2011 I had to look really close within this shrub to see this Widow Skimmer, and I guess for whatever reason, I just liked the setting in which she was perched. I'm even OK with the oof branch in front of her right wings....it adds something to the pic (I hope) A male from another locale is shown below.
Spangled Skimmer, female
I used to confuse the spangled skimmer with the widow skimmer. The spangled skimmer has white spots (pterostigma) on her wings and no brown patch near the body.
