The Canary Islands have been a firm favourite as a cheap holiday destination for a long time. Although part of Spain, the islands are geographically further away than people realise and this is what makes the Canary Islands so popular. Located off the North African coast, this results in a cool Spanish/North African vibe and culture as well as warm sun pretty much all year round. The rugged landscape also works in the islands' favor making the Canary Islands a destination not just for sun-worshipers, although the 932 miles of coastline does help popularise the beaches. The volcanic landscape is ideal for hiking and climbing and the Atlantic Ocean attracts marine life aplenty. Although there are seven islands in total, there are the big three that attract visitors and vacationers year round, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote. Whether it be beaches, nightlife, food, wine, golf, hiking, wildlife or retail therapy, you will definitely find it in the Canary Islands.
