woven paper placemats
    woven paper
  • A paper showing even texture and thickness when held to light. Created with very fine netting, a uniform, smooth texture results. Often used in fine writing and calligraphy, archival quality woven paper can be used by watercolorists with good results.
    placemats
  • A placemat is a protective table pad usually made of paper, plastic or cloth for restaurants and households. Asian-style placemats may feature thin slats of bamboo or colourful beads. The term is derived from the mat being put at a person's "place" (chair) at a table.

I re-shot all of my product photos yesterday. I tried a bunch of new things. Hopefully some of them came out okay. I put my camera on fully manual mode, which seems to have worked out okay and allowed me to avoid resetting the gray point with each new photo. I also used a light box, with a brown wrapping paper background instead of a white background, which I thought was going to be a problem, but I like how it turned out. The lightbox eliminated most of the reflection problems I've been having. (In case you're wondering: the woven placemat, the brown lightly striped wrapping paper, and the bowl are all from Ikea.)
Figuring out the skirt
Figuring out the skirt
With the bodice done, and my placemat in pieces, I had to resort to leftovers from the Medieval and Renaissance Club in my recycle bin for the skirt. The front of the skirt has three pleats on each side, which I decided to replicate, so I folded a ribbon, and measured to get the length, then I held up the paper to decide on the height. And yes- I do still teach weaving.
