Description

The featured engine here is a 1935 Briggs and Stratton model Y
engine that I have restored. Type: 60190   Serial: 116047
This engine had many adaptations in it's time. Some of the primary applications for this engine was to run generators, lawn mowers,
and washing machines.

The Briggs Y was manufactured from 1931 to 1945, (approx).
It is rated at 1/2 horsepower with a 2.25" bore and 2.25" stroke.
This engine block is constructed out of cast iron.
This model featured a horizontal crankshaft.
The air cleaner on this engine used horse hair to filter out dirt.
This model uses a combination of a metal foot-operated petal and a
geared starter mechanism to start the engine.
This engine used an L-head design, (also referred to as flat-head).
To save space the spark plug was pointed in a horizontal direction.
Speed of this engine is controlled with a pneumatic governor.  
This particular engine has a stamped brass tag to identify it.
The intake on this model is a 1/2" suction-feed mixer made of pot metal.
The engine uses a mixer to supply the air/gas to the engine. 

The exhaust is aspirated through a 3/4" NPT threaded port.
The gas tank is external on this model.
This engine employs a blower mechanism to force air over the engine
block which was cast with fins to accomplish cooling.
