About CAR

The Council on Anthropology and Reproduction (CAR) was founded in 1979. Our mission is to build strong and active networks among practitioners, researchers, teachers, trainers, activists, policy makers, scholars and others interested in the anthropology of reproduction in its many permutations. CAR has members in countries across the globe and in professions at the center of and well beyond anthropology.

CAR facilitates networking through its Listserv, Biannual Newsletter, Membership Directory, website and special events at the American Anthropological Association annual meetings as well as other subgroup meetings, like the Society for Medical Anthropology and the Society for Applied Anthropology.  Although we are a special interest group of the Society for Medical Anthropology (SMA, a subsection of the American Anthropological Association), you do NOT need to be a member of the AAA or SMA to join CAR.

Haven't looked at the CAR website in a while?? We've updated a few things: Our Newsletter Archive has been resorted and we've added several more syllabi. More updates are coming!
