Industrial Water Coolers. Horizontal Bottle Coolers. Industrial Water Coolers
3D, Going, Going Green Line, MTA, Redondo Beach, California, 2009.02.23 09:28 [crosseye stereograph, see 3D with your left eye on the right image, and right on left.] This end of the Green Line, Los Angeles' Metro Light Rail, gives new meaning to terminal. You will see, in the summer, board shorts and flip flops, boogie boards and beach coolers all heading to "Redondo Beach" and "Marine". Sounds pretty wet, but it's high and dry, and far from the water. That's because it ends at the intersection of Marine Ave. and Redondo Beach Street in an industrial park. For many years there was no bus service to the station, now there is a leased line along Marine and a "Lawndale Beat" jitney that completes the last leg where this track SHOULD have gone, to the Transit Center at the South Bay Galleria. Redondo Beach, the city, is trying to get a bus line to the Redondo Pier from here, a really short bus. Really short bus, that's a reflection on the education of the transit planners who left this end of the line "hanging." dsc00002, 2009:02:23 09:28:08, 3D, Redondo Beach, MTA, Going, Going Green Line Marshall's Water Tower
This fine early Victorian water tower (built around 1850) stands in the "forgotten" half of Sandsfield Lane, Gainsborough, a short walk from Tesco's car park. It is still in remarkably good condition, although it has not been used for it's intended purpose since the 1970s. Since then at various times it has served as a timber merchants and a gymnasium. It's current use is unknown, but I feel this is a significant Gainsborough building that needs recording.
