Better than Windows, but a waste of money.
Forgive me for not writing very much, but the only Mac I've ever used was made in 1998 and it's running OS 9. (Apple, creatively, named many of it's operating systems OS #. At least with Windows ## you knew who was making it and when.) But from what I've heard, in most ways it's about on par with Linux, except for one thing: it's ridiculously priced. Forgive me, but why would anyone pay $199 for OS X (they've switched to Roman numerals: how impressive!) when Ubuntu Dapper Drake is just as secure and user-friendly and is free! OK, OK, Mac has improved tremendously, going from a half-decent OS with crappy hardware to an excellent OS with crappy hardware to an excellent OS with excellent hardware. OS X switched from Mac OS to something Unix-based, so at the bottom level it's extremely similar to Linux, but from there up it's just its own weird thing. P.S. I really should say that Mac is user-friendly and has a strong community. Notice, however, that it is not a stronger community than most Linux distros have. Once again, it's as good as Linux, but costs real money. |
