Abandoned drive-thru (Two Rivers, WI)
Even though it was just a rudimentary "Express" location tucked next to a convenience store, the gas station's Taco Bell franchise came complete with a drive-thru lane (now overgrown) and menu board. Not only did Gurpal lose their BP and Citgo connections, but it seems that they even broke their franchise and went "unbranded" with Taco Bell! The menu board is filled with a mixture of real Taco Bell items interspersed with strange things like "Del Channy's Melt" and "Roti Taco," with a couple of generic "Taco Express" logos thrown in for good measure. I think that Darrell will have to use the large size and comb through this line by line...

Del Taco and Taco Bell - Classic Gringo Tacos
Del Taco's packaging screams "tradition", with their timeless logo of setting sun over the hills of legendary Deltaco, USA, and "1964" stamp harkening back to their origin. Those hills might also symbolize the smoking Popocatepetl Volcano back home in Puebla, since the tacos are wrapped in the colors of the flag of Los Estados Unidos. In contrast, Taco Bell's packaging screams "innovation". Where is the history there? Where our little sombrero'd friend and his wind-swept sarape, braving the desert for a bite to eat, where the fun block-colored lettering? Not even a hint of its former self. And what's up with those colors - is this from a taco joint or YAHOO?
