What's in an Egg?
Birds are either born precocial (mobile and ready to take care of themselves to a degree) or altricial (helpless). Birds are deuterstomes, so develop anus first in the egg and break their way out with an egg tooth.
Basic Stages of Development
Mating
Birds reproduce sexually, and oviparous, meaning that they lay eggs instead of producing live young. Most male birds do not have penises, they reproduce through a method called the cloacal kiss, where they a male and female bird briefly touch cloacas and sperm is transfered to the female. Many birds have complex mating rituals, like these two dancing cranes.
