Welcome to the web pages of Melanie Daniels. I am an Animal Behaviourist covering the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire area. As a COAPE (Centre Of Applied Pet Ethology) qualified Animal Behaviourist and with my experience of working with rescue dogs at an animal rescue centre, I am able to help you with a wide range of cat and dog behaviour problems. More information about my experience in animal behaviour can be found on the About Me page.

One to One Dog Behaviour Consultations.

After making contact with me, we will discuss your dog's behaviour problem and I will make an appointment with you for a one to one behaviour consultation. This takes place in your own home so that I can assess your dog in his normal environment.

I will always be open and honest with you as to what I feel we can achieve during a behaviour visit but there are no magic 'quick fixes' so there will be alot of work for you and your dog after the visit and for the rest of your dog's life.

Most of my clients are referred to me from a Veterinary Surgeon who will examine your dog before we meet, to ensure the problem isn't caused by an underlying  medical problem. If you are not being referred by your vet then I will sometimes ask you to go and have your dog examined if I suspect it could be caused by an underlying problem.

I cover Milton Keynes, Bedford, Luton, Hitchin, Stevenage, Northhampton and surrounding areas.

The Behaviour Visit.

Before I visit you, I will send a behaviour questionnaire to you to gather more details about your dog's specific problem(s). If I need to see how your dog reacts to a specific set of circumstances, we may need to take your dog to the situation in which the problem occurs. During my behaviour visits, one of the most important things I feel is for a family and their dog to be relaxed and happy living together. This is what I aim for with every case I see. Dogs are obviously their own species and this is why it is crucial for me to educate you, the owner, on how to behave and interact with them. Your dog needs to express as much of his natural behaviour as possible to enable him to feel content and happy so that he can fit in with your family.

After the Visit.

There is a lot to take in during a behaviour consultation, so I provide you with written notes for reference after the visit. Occassionaly I will need to write a letter to your vet to ask them to prescribe medication that can help your dog. The real work now begins I will normally call you after 6 to 8 weeks to see how you are getting on but you may need to contact me to ask further questions before this.

If you would like to enquire about a behaviour consultation, please see the contact me page to get in touch.
