Angel Farm Creative Services

I call upon a variety of creative skills and experience to develop ideas, concepts, images and text for myself and my clients, which include individuals, local and national non-profit organizations, arts organizations, community development organizations and local businesses and government.

Let's discuss your project!

Creative Background

I received my Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Hartford Art School in 1972. I Studied Design, Painting, Sculpture, and Color Theory at the University of Bridgeport, 1970-71 and at Dean College 1968-1970. I also studied drawing, design and sculpture with James Caudle 1966-1968. I minored in Creative Writing.

I began my professional career as commercial illustrator. My passion for aviation provided my first subjects--I created original paintings and drawings for clients across the United States, as well as a series of offset prints of five drawings of classic American aircraft.

I became a private pilot in 1977, and a commercial pilot in 1981, earning a living as a flight instructor, charter, and commuter airline pilot. I sold art sporadically in this period.

In 1988 an opportunity to write about aviation arose and I joined the staff of Business & Commercial Aviation magazine, a McGraw-Hill publication.

I moved to Maine in 1994, continuing to freelance for several McGraw-Hill print and online publications, as well develop a modest website development and support service. In 1997 I authored my first book, Aviation Computing Systems, published by McGraw-Hill.

My writing and family responsibilities left little time for making artwork until 2003, when I just decided I had to start making art again. Living in Maine presented me with many new subjects and expressive themes, which I continue to explore with new materials and techniques.

In 2005 I began to exhibit and sell my work again, which has brought me a great deal of satisfaction. Some examples of my work can be seen on this website.

In addition to my artwork, I provide website design and management services to several area clients. Additionally, I am a contributing editor to Business & Commercial Aviation, a corporate aviation trade magazine, where I am primarily responsible for producing an annual buyer's guide to aircraft avionics and cabin electronics systems, in addition to occasional feature stories on other subjects.

Artist's Statement

A chance, brief meeting with sculptor Louise Nevelson in college has guided much of my art-making.Other strong influences include Mark Rothko, Paul Klee, the Wyeths, and Winslow Homer's marine subjects.

Like a Buddhist chant or even jazz, my art-making is both meditative and an effort to resonate with something spiritual in the viewer. I seek out universal visual metaphors that might connect us to our common origins, psyches or soul. At the same time, I try to make connections with visual archetypes of New England.

I enjoy the alchemy that happens when I put materials, textures and color together; There's almost always a surprise and new associations that resonate with me, often spiritually, and hopefully with the viewer, too.

I have an affinity for weathered wood and found objects transmuted by time or tide. My subjects range from the merely representational to the mysterious effects of nature, and from merely whimsical to the profound.
