Certification Reflection

I came into this program on the advice of a fellow teacher who was in the program at the time.  I had been teaching music and technology education for four years and wanted to continue my career in education, but was looking for a new challenge.  The fellow teacher pointed out that my love of reading and my fanatical obsession with technology were the perfect match for the School Library Media program.

Through the courses, I have come to understand the AASL standards as I completed the class assignments and completed the grading rubrics that connected the work I did to the standards, crystallizing their connection.  The professors taught me about professional ethics, collaboration, research, essential laws and regulations, and materials selection practices, while the field experience and internship showed me the practical application of all these.

The program emphasized serving equally all patrons including ones from various multicultural backgrounds, socioeconomic standings and differing abilities, plus the importance of reaching out to the community surrounding the school.  Functioning within legal and ethical parameters was stressed in order to protect myself, the patrons, and the school.

I will utilize my education and field training to administer a fair and balanced media program.  I will also  continue and expand the spirit of collaboration I have been able to foster in my current position, as I have come to realize that collaboration is the single best way to enhance the students learning experience, while frequently bringing more enjoyment to the learning experience.
