This isn't what I picture when I think of a maypole! It's a very tall pole made from a stripped tree trunk, bearing images related to local crafts and trades. Going down the left-hand side, there's a top hat, a church?, crossed keys, a watering can, a boot, a skittle and ball?, a wooden tub with tools sticking out (butter churn? winemaking? tanning?), a spinning wheel, carpentry tools, a pretzel and, um, an enormous mushroom with an axe. Down the right side, there's a book in a press, then two things I can't identify; then there's paint with paintbrushes, a pair of scissors, a carpentry plane, a lion(!) with a teapot in his mouth, an anvil and metalworking tools, woodcutting tools, a cow's head with crossed bladed instruments, and finally a couple in traditional dress.
