What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a science that maps out the reflexes to the whole
body on the feet and/or the hands. It involves the stimulation of the
acupressure points of the feet, hands and ears to release energy
blocks. It is a deeply relaxing, therapeutic treatment which
facilitates the restoration of balance and maintenance of wellbeing but should not be confused
with massage.
By applying pressure to the reflex points, the natural flow is
revitalized. Reflexology assists the body to balance body
energies. The energy flow takes specific paths through the body
and converges on the feet and hands at reflex points.
Benefits:
- release and remove toxins from the body,
- relieve
pain
- relax muscles
-
increase circulation,
- reduce lymphatic system disorders
- improve concentration
- reduce mental and emotional stress
- reduce physical tension
- lessen addictive
cravings
-
helps with weight lost (gain as desired)
- improve vision,
- reduce
allergies,
- improve body alignment ... to name a few.
Is Reflexology_New?
The idea behind Reflexology is not new - in fact, it was practiced as early
as 2330 B.C. by the Egyptian culture. The precursor of modern reflexology was introduced to the United States in 1913 by William H. Fitzgerald, M.D. (1872-1942), an ear, nose, and throat specialist, and Dr. Edwin Bowers. Fitzgerald claimed that applying pressure had an anesthetic effect on other areas of the body.
Reflexology was further developed in the 1930s and 1940s by Eunice D. Ingham (1899-1974), a nurse and physiotherapist.
Ingham claimed that the feet and hands were especially sensitive, and
mapped the entire body into "reflexes" on the feet. It was at this time
that "zone therapy" was renamed reflexology. What are the benefits of combining Reflexology with Essential Oils? Reflexology stimulates the circulation
to the organs and systems, unblocking vital energy
pathways known as meridian points. When combining essential oils, the healing properties of the oils are carried
through the body by means of the reflex points (neural pathways or meridians) to various body
organs and systems to treat the condition.
When the process of Reflexology is combine with the healing properties of the essential oils, the body is better able to promote it's own natural abilities for self-healing..
