Mosquito repellent

posted ‎‎Jul 21, 2008 7:23 AM‎‎ by Lilly DelValle

I read various studies of Cinnamon killing mosquito larva and repelling mosquito.  Other studies state that Cinnamon repellent Mosquito as well as DEET without the side affects.  So I tried it.

I add pure cinnamon oil in a small spray bottle filled with distilled water and sprayed myself with it.  I also spray the patio furniture.  Then I sat out on the patio and read.  Not one mosquito or fly came near me.  It was perfect. Safe, natural and it works.  - Lilly K.

More Information on Cinnamon:
A study published in the July 14th issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry reports that the compounds in cinnamon oil are more potent in killing mosquitoes than DEET (usually used as a repellent, but also poisonous). The researchers tested eleven compounds found in cinnamon leaf oil for their capacity to kill the larvae of Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that carries yellow fever. Four of the compounds had LC50 values (concentration required to kill 50% of the larvae within 24 hours) of less than 50 parts per million (ppm). Is is expected that the cinnamon oil will prove similarly lethal against larvae of other types of mosquitoes, providing a safe, natural, pleasant-smelling alternative to other pesticides. Sensitive To Perfume

posted ‎‎Jul 21, 2008 7:10 AM‎‎ by Lilly DelValle   [ updated ‎‎Jul 21, 2008 7:10 AM‎‎ ]

"I am sensitive to perfume and, at first, I would not try the essential oils. I was concerned about my sensitivity to perfumes. At the urging of a good friend, I finally tried the oils. I am so glad I did. I had to go slow in the beginning to allow my system to release toxins. I did go through a cleansing, however, I could tell that it was different from my reactions to perfume. I now have no problem with any of the oils. I recently went into a store that sold the competition's essential oils and within a few minutes my eyes were watering and my nose running. I, myself, went running from the store. I had to get out immediately! I have realized that my reaction is not to the plant essences, but to the chemicals used to process the competition's products. However, I do not have a problem with Grade A 100% Pure Organic essential oil products because of their purity. I feel that it is important for people with food allergies or sensitivities to things like perfume, to go slow and focus on detoxing in the beginning. Cleansing reactions are possible, however, the reaction is not to the essential oils, but to the toxins in your body. Once my body was cleansed, I felt better than I have ever felt. Adding the essential oils to my daily program has increased the effectiveness of my nutrition program."

Tendinitis

"The last 5 days I have had tendinitis pain again in my left elbow. Hurt like crazy too. As I was towing my boat to the lake today to do some fishing I put 5 drops of birch oil on the elbow and rubbed it in real good. In 5 minutes no pain. After fishing for 7 hrs and catching 75 fish, I glanced at my arm as I was driving home and said out loud and laughed when I said, "HEY, THAT ELBOW HAS NOT HURT ONE BIT SINCE THE BIRCH TREATMENT!!!!!! From now on wherever I go the birch oil will be in my pocket. That's a promise. " Jim R. Lebanon, P

Essential Oils and Aphids

I was sitting on the porch yesterday and thought the stems of my strawberry plants, in large hanging baskets, looked a little funny. I got up for a better look and found quite a few Aphids. I just happened to have a spray bottle sitting on the table with Young Living’s Palo Santo essential oil in it. I lightly sprayed the Aphids, they didn’t like that so much. I assumed they died.

Today, I checked my strawberry plants again and saw a few Aphids. This time I used a mixture of Young Living’s Peppermint essential oil (20 drops) and the blend Purification (20 drops) (my spray bottles are 32 oz. and filled with water to which I add my drops of essential oils).

I lightly spritzed my two hanging baskets of strawberries and felt that the Aphids vanished quicker with the mixture of Peppermint and Purification. Just for good measure, I went around an spritzed all of my potted plants and hanging baskets. I noticed that one of my wooden planters, the kind attached to the railing of  a porch, had dozens of tiny ants (you may want to read my tiny ant story). I gave the soil around those plants a mist of this mixture, clearly the ants were making a nest in the soil and tried to flee, they didn’t get very far.  -  Evelyn V.
