5/365 - Jenna. Jenna. Today has been a mixed bag for me. I've had 3 pieces of amazing news, made some brilliant bookings for the future and been invited to photograph the Scottish Style Awards. Yet, (there's always a yet or a but isn't there?) I have to do something tomorrow which scares me. I have to take a risk and I'm constantly questioning if it's the right thing to do. I know it is though, it's just having the balls to go through with it that's the hard part. This is all related to the above picture of my girlfriend, Jenna, by the way. So Jenna came round tonight with two of the best fillet steaks I have ever seen in my life. She cooked me a meal of home made chips and fillet steak. It was wonderful. We talked about the choice I have to make and she gave me some encouraging and supportive advice. Afterwards we had a walk to the green where I had to shoot a background image for college. Once I had done that I decided that I wanted Jenna to be the subject for my 365 image today. Notes: it was incredibly hard to get the camera to focus on this, eventually I had to switch to live view and manually focus it I was still shooting at: 1/50) f/1.4 ISO Speed 4000 which isn't ideal. I also learnt that it's important to not only document the things I do in my life but the people I am close to too. I normally wouldn't shoot a friend/partner as a subject as I try to keep my social photography, just that, social and generally don't use friends as models for projects. These annotated parts are getting longer aren't they? Day 24 - Nice to meat you
So as many may or may not know, I am an extremely fussy eater. As I've grown up I have been very slowly trying new foods, in the hope that I can overcome the fussiness and allow myself to actually have a choice when I go into a restaurant and not just order a burger and fries. I have only recently started to eat pork! I've already had it cooked in 3 different ways which hasn't helped as I now demand that my meat is cooked in a certain way. The best way so far is in a Budweiser Marinade, cooked in the oven through to the middle on a slow cook, then chucked on the BBQ. Second best was when I had dinner at my brothers house a few days ago, when I had Pork Belly cooked in the oven on a slow cook then put on a griddle. I decided today that I should try and have some of the same meat at home, but it was cooked completely on the hot plate griddle on our hob. I gotta say that this was definitely the worst way! It gave the meat a rubbery texture that was just really unappealing, and the Chinese style sauce tasted weird. It seems that pork is much nicer if its cooked in the oven prior to being grilled or BBQ'd! Anyway, as this dinner was the only highlight of my day, this was the photo I chose to take. I am not overly happy with the colours, or my continuation of portrait photos with retro colouring and fades around the edge. Stuff is getting too samey! Problem is I am scared to start changing the style as I like to continue the theme just to not make any photos look like 'odd ones out'.
