Artist Statement
My work serves my eccentric taste. I believe In quality function that gives lively thought to those who put my pieces to use. There is a sensuality based in the organic curves and surface that promotes an exciting experience. Curviness, smoothness, bumpiness all serves the purposefulness of touch. It is odd, wavy and precious.
I stretch and squat the clay with deliberate immediacy during the wettest stages of the process. I believe in following instinct and having trust and faith in my experience as I make instantaneous decisions. I am not afraid to be cheeky, as I delight in such luxurious thought. It is through courage and possibly anxious creativity that I allow myself to arrive to my own shape - a shape I can live with, a shape I can change, shape to find solace out of chaos... The methods I have developed for altering my work has challenged me to continue pushing and pulling shapes to the extreme and yet retain a respectable amount of what I consider to be useful at the time. My work celebrates diversity of shape and our interaction with it.
