In a real sense, people who have read good literature have lived more than people who cannot or will not read. It is not true that we have only one life to live; if we can read, we can live as many more lives we wish.  -S.I. Hayakawa

Our goal is to insure that every student has a successful learning experience in our classes.  We teach reading, writing, speaking, viewing and listening skills in accordance with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. All students enrolled in English are given a syllabus for the course (these can be accessed on each instructor's individual web page), and every course requires regular reading and writing, vocabulary study, prescriptive grammar instruction, an assigned research paper and related oral presentation, and various projects. After completing the four required units of English, students should have the requisite communication skills  to be successful and informed citizens of the 21st Century.
