About Me...

This is my 26th year of teaching, and during my career I have taught grades 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 12. Currently I serve as department chair and am privileged to work with three dedicated colleagues in our English department. I hold bachelors and masters degrees from Western Carolina University and earned my National Board Certification in 2002. In 1999 I had the honor of being selected as RHS Teacher of the Year, then Graham County Teacher of the Year. I was chosen as Western Regional Teacher of the Year in 2000 and was named a state finalist. For two years I served as a teacher on loan to the Western Regional Education Service Alliance and worked as a teacher recruitment specialist and language arts consultant before returning to my classroom in 2001. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I serve as co-sponsor of the Future Teachers' Organization at RHS. I also teach part-time at Tri-County Community College and enjoy teaching all facets of the English curriculum, particularly writing.
