Math

Throughout the year we will be working strongly with vocabulary and using key words to help us identify how to solve problems. There is a math dictionary that we will use to compile different words throughout the year in the front of their math folder (orange). They should be studying these words along with the notes we take in class.

We are currently working through module two which deals with adding and subtracting whole numbers and decimals.

Great Games for Practice

Addition, Subtraction, and Multiplication War:  Make a set of digit cards (you can use a regular deck of cards, however you will need to make Aces = 1, and decide on another face card to equal zero. Then remove the other face cards). Have at least four cards for each digit 0-9.  Split the deck equally between the players. Each player flips over one card at the same time so that everyone can see. The first person to add, subtract, or multiply the numbers correctly wins the cards. The game continues until one person has all of the cards.

Decimal War: Create a set of decimal cards. Do not include whole numbers and do not go beyond the thousandths place. Split the deck equally among all players. Each player flips over a card at the same time so that everyone can see. The first person to say the larger of the two decimals wins the cards. The game continues until one person has all of the cards.
