A Report on the Sports Day

It was on the bright sunny Thursday, 20th Mar.2008 we had our sports meet in Amrita School of Arts and Sciences. All the students were keenly waiting this day and at last the

Count down came to zero. First was the lighting of flame; the torch was carried first by Gopala Krishnan who is a national level hand ball player and also has represented State in athletics meet and then the torch was handed to Abilash who is one of the karate kid of our college, has won the first prize in national level karate competition and then followed by the Adwith, has won third in National karate competition held at Chennai and he also has won a third place in Javelin-throw held at district level inter-college meet and then to the Arjun S, who is fourth seed national level badminton player and last but not the least byKarthik Sreekumar who is an all rounder. He then handed over the torch to Smt. K G Kavitha who was the chief guest for the day and then she lit the flame. The sports meet was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, who works as an employee for LIC of India, Mysore. She declared the meet open. It was presided by Br. Ramakrishna, Amritanandamayi Math, Mysore.

After this, our sports meet started with 800mts race. It was a close race and then Kiran Kumar finishing the race securing the first place and then it was 400mts for women. From the beginning Sushma was in the lead and finished First and then it was time for Shot Put for men where Bishwanth of II BBM turned out to be the First with a an unbeatable throw. Next, it was Shot Put for women where Kavya from II Sem BBM, won the gold. Inthe 100mts for women Spurti of BCA finished, securing first place. And then it was 100mts, for men,where it was a very close race and Gopal Krishnan emerged as the fastest man in Amrita Mysore. Then it was 200mts,for men: Here also Gopal finished with a wonderful lead and then it was Discus Throw. It had such a tight competition that I, II and III was only 0.01 cm away and here it was Adwith who clinched the gold and in the women’s, again Kavya took the gold.In the Long Jump event, Gopal Krishnan again clinched the gold with a magnificent jump of 5.81mts and thus Gopal Krishnan became the Individual Champion for the year 2007-08. Then, we the students conducted the Teachers Sports which had two events, that is, Bucketing the Ball, where Smt Sunayana(Dept. of BBM) turned out to be very good. And at Hitting the Target, it was our Principal Prof G N Bhat. Then due to rain we had to conclude the sports day rest of the events was conducted on 27thMar. evening. First it was Javelin, where Adwith clinched the gold and then in girls it was Sushma of BCA II, got one more gold and thus became the individual champion for the year 07-08 then it was relay for women where Nisarga went for the gold and in the men’s relay, it was again a tight competition between Nisarga and Prakriti, where just in a matter of a few seconds difference Nisarga emerged victorious & took home the gold.

Thus, with all this, we came to the end of our Sports Meet for the year 2007-08.
