  • (valve) a structure in a hollow organ (like the heart) with a flap to insure one-way flow of fluid through it
  • A membranous fold in a hollow organ or tubular structure, such as a blood vessel or the digestive tract, that maintains the flow of the contents in one direction by closing in response to any pressure from reverse flow

Flat Tyre (365/65)
Flat Tyre (365/65)
Not a very exciting picture I know, but I ran out of time to plan anything else today. This afternoon, I wanted to go on a bike ride. I've been feeling low, and just needed half an hour to blow the cobwebs away and get a little endorphin rush. I got my bike out of the garage. The front tyre was flat. REALLY flat. I got the bicycle pump out and wondered why that wasn't helping. Then I noticed that the tubing between the pump and tyre had completely corroded and split. So instead of a bike ride, I spent my afternoon going to Halfords instead. I now have a new space-agey looking bicycle pump and a new inner tube. I'm glad I got the inner tube, as even with a bicycle pump that works, the tyre deflates again within seconds after being inflated. During all this, it poured with rain. So maybe it was a good thing I didn't go out cycling after all. I'll fix it tomorrow. Maybe. If I can find an idiots guide to changing bike tyres.
Cut in my bicycle tyre
Cut in my bicycle tyre
This deep cut is the result of driving over a glass (not a piece of glass, but an actual glass. It was left on the street by a drunken? reveller. It was a gin-and-tonic glass, so at least it must have been a stylish reveller). The inner tyre received a similar cut. Replacing both tyres is the only possibility. I didn't mind replacing the inner tyre, because it was bad and needed replacing. I replaced the outer tyre not so long ago, so that was not funny. As this is the rear wheel and I have a three-speed gearbox by Sturmey Archer, I need a special tool in order to prevent complete dismantling of the wheel (cumbersome).
