Bottom of slab under fireplace To pour the slab we screwed plywood level with the bottom of the joists. Then we wedged 2x4s under the plywood by the concrete bricks. We put cardboard between the edges of the joists and slab for a expansion break.(wood and concrete expand at differant rates. Line the inside of the form with plastic by the outside to keep too much from dripping out. Some will drip. For the ash drop and air intake we put chunks of metal heater duct in. Put circles of wood or we used hard pink insulation, to hold the ducting in the right place and keep cement out. To hold the top in place all you need is a small board/stick with a screw to the top of duct circle. AC Duct 1
Side shot of the fabricated AC/heater duct. The standard outlet on the AC plenum opints straight into the dash and it is difficult to do anything with it without kinking the hoses. I made a duct to route the center outlets up and over the top of the plenum and towards the drivers side. This will make it easier to send air to the drivers side for the defrost vent and floor outlet without kinking up the hoses and restricting airflow.
