Retro Style Decorating

Retro is a culturally outdated or aged style, trend, mode, or fashion, from the overall postmodern past, but have since that time become functionally or superficially the norm once again.

Make (something) look more attractive by adding ornament to it

(decorate) deck: be beautiful to look at; "Flowers adorned the tables everywhere"

(decorate) award a mark of honor, such as a medal, to; "He was decorated for his services in the military"

Confer an award or medal on (a member of the armed forces)

Provide (a room or building) with a color scheme, paint, wallpaper, etc

Retro Bathroom 03

I found pictures of Debbie Reynolds and Shirley Joens adverstiting Breck Shampoo in ads in Seventeen magazines from 1962, cut them out and framed them. I then found a picture of Shari Lewis (Richard worked for her until her death in 1998) from the same era and made her match the others.

[The third bathroom of my house is in the back, and since it had a 1960s-style shower that we were not going to remodel, my ex and I decided to just "go for it" and turned it into an homage to 1962, with the hip colors of the first part of that decade.]

255/365 - "Faster and Flameless"

Aunt Cathy gave me a bag of magazines (some with crochet patterns) from an elderly woman who was cleaning out her home. Among them was a magazine published in August 1961-- "The Progressive Farmer". This is a photo of one of the advertisements. This kitchen isn't exactly my style, but it's still fun to look at. Imagine an aqua and lavender kitchen! There's another on another page (and in another photo over on my Flickr photostream) that's all pale pink.
