April saw the Northampton U3A group on an outing to Cambridge. We had a guided tour around the colleges by a Blue Badge Guide. The weather was incredible for April, as can be seen in the photographs. Another wonderful day out. The interior of the Hall was completed 1451, and was originally very plain. The decoration was changed over the years, the last time being in the mid 19th century, when it was decorated in the Victorian Arts & Crafts style. The decoration of the walls and ceiling were designed by the architect George F Bodley. The fireplace built with tiles showing 'Labours of the Month' by Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co, and Ford Maddox Brown Queens’ College was founded in 1448 by Queen Margaret of Anjou, emulating her husband, King Henry VI, who founded King’s College. The president of the College, Andrew Dockett, later secured the patronage of Elizabeth Woodville, Queen of Edward IV. Her re-founding of the College in 1475 accounts for the double allegiance, and plural spelling of Queens’. The current Patroness of the College is our present Queen, Elizabeth.
