UTEP Walk

AMIGO AMBLERS VOLKSSPORT CLUB

EL PASO, TEXAS

AVA-769

"B" Event SW08/Y900 UTEP

April 2009 - In spite of national media coverage, walking in the El Paso area has not been affected by the violence in nearby Juarez, Mexico. No walks go into Mexico - but you can see it from most of the current walk routes. All walks are limited to daylight hours. We, as local walkers, continue to enjoy the walks and hope you will choose to join us.

Distance - 5 km. (3.1) or 10km (6.2 miles in length).

Directions to Start/Finish Point - Albertsons Grocery Store at 3100 North Mesa (intersection of Mesa and Gregory). Coming from New Mexico on IH10,take the Downtown/Convention Center Exit 19. Go four short blocks to Mesa and turn left. Travel about 1.6 miles to Albertsons, which is on the right. Coming from the east on IH10, take the Mesa Exit 19A. (This is NOT the same exit as the "A" Event.) Turn right onto Mesa. Once on Mesa, travel about 1.5 miles to the Albertsons, which is on the right. Please park at the back of the parking lot.

Start/Finish Times - Albertsons Grocery Store is open 6:00 a.m. to 12 Midnight seven days a week. You may register to walk during these hours; however, please walk only during daylight hours.

Registration - There is a self serve case at the Customer Service Desk on your left as you enter the store. Follow the directions inside the case for fees and registration. Please be patient if the workers are busy.

Information - Charley Hollis, (915) 833-7048 or e-mail at Charleyh1@yahoo.com.

Trail Rating - This 10 km trail is rated a (2+) because of several moderate hills. The course is mostly on sidewalks, but, because of the hills, we do not recommend wheelchairs on the course. The course is suitable for strollers.

Trail Description - This walk is well worth the hills as you travel through this lovely older section of El Paso and through the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso. See pictures of this walk.

Note: This event qualifies as a College Campus Walk.
