"C" Event SW12/Y439 Fort Bliss
 

In spite of national media coverage, walking in the El Paso area has not been affected by the violence in nearby Juarez, Mexico. No walks go into Mexico - but you can see it from most of the current walk routes. All walks are limited to daylight hours. We, as local walkers, continue to enjoy the walks and hope you will choose to join us.

 

Distance - 5 km (3.1 miles) or 10km (6.2miles) in length. New walk routes.

Note: This event qualifies for the following Special Event Program walks: America's Gardens,  Forts of the United States, Hillside Letters, Honoring Law Enforcement, Museums, Veteran Memorial and Walking the U.S. - A-Z (Letter F.)  

Security Note: Fort Bliss is an active U.S. Army post, and is under heightened security conditions.** NOTE**Civilians are welcome at Fort Bliss. Without military ID, you must enter Fort Bliss at the Robert E. Lee gate. From I-10, take the Airway exit. Follow the road as it passes the airport and curves left. Enter Fort Bliss just after crossing Airport Rd. Stop at the visitor’s building (small building on left). Show your Driver’s License, certificate of vehicle registration, and proof of insurance and you’ll be given a day pass. Even with a military sticker on your windshield, you must show a picture ID whenever you enter through one of the post gates.
 
Directions to Start/Finish Point - IHG Army Hotel (Holiday Inn Express), formerly called The Inn at Fort Bliss, is located at 1744 Victory Ave. From I-10 East or West, exit onto US Highway 54 (Patriot Freeway) toward Alamogordo. To get to The Inn from Airport Road: Proceed straight ahead (after showing your pass to the gate guards.) At the first corner, turn right on Jeb Stuart. Continue on Jeb Stuart, through several traffic signals, to Haan Rd. and turn left. One block ahead, turn right on Pleasonton Rd. Go about a block to The Inn.  
 
Start/Finish Times - The Inn is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You may register at any time; however, please walk only during daylight hours.

Registration - There is a self-serve case at the front desk in the new lobby. Follow the directions inside the case for fees and registration. Please be patient if the workers are busy.

Trail Rating - These trails are flat (1) along the sidewalks of Fort Bliss. The course is suitable for strollers, wagons, and wheelchairs.

Trail Description - This walk will take you around and through Fort Bliss. You'll pass the historic staff buildings, Officers' Row, and the old General Pershing House. You'll also pass many of the wonderful museums of Fort Bliss, including the Air Defense Museum and the Old Fort Bliss Replica. Plan some extra time to enjoy the great exhibits of our southwest military history. See pictures of this walk.
