AMIGO AMBLERS VOLKSSPORT CLUB
EL PASO, TEXAS
AVA-769
"C" Event SW08/Y439 Fort Bliss
April 2009 - In spite of national media coverage, walking in the El Paso area has not been affected by the violence in nearby Juarez, Mexico. No walks go into Mexico - but you can see it from most of the current walk routes. All walks are limited to daylight hours. We, as local walkers, continue to enjoy the walks and hope you will choose to join us.
Distance - 5 km (3.1 miles) or 10km (6.2miles) in length.
Directions to Start/Finish Point - The Inn at Fort Bliss is located at 1744 Victory Ave. From I-10 East or West, exit onto US Highway 54 (Patriot Freeway) toward Alamogordo. Take the Cassidy exit. This takes you right to the main gate. After passing through security, drive straight ahead to Marshall Road. Turn left at the light. Go straight until you get to Victory, (just past the Credit Union on the right) then turn right. You'll see The Inn on the left. The entrance to the Inn is on the left side of the building.
Security Note: Fort Bliss is an active U.S. Army post, and is under heightened security conditions. If you do not have a valid post sticker on your car windshield, or if you cannot show military identification, you will be asked to pull into a parking area outside the gate and enter the security office. Inside, you will be asked for your driver's license, certificate of vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. Once the information has been entered into the computer, you will be issued a temporary vehicle pass. Even with a military sticker on your windshield, you must show a picture ID whenever you enter through one of the post gates.
Start/Finish Times - The Inn is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You may register at any time; however, please walk only during daylight hours.
Registration - There is a self-serve case at the front desk in the new lobby. Follow the directions inside the case for fees and registration. Please be patient if the workers are busy.
