"D" Event SW08/Y1135 Downtown

April 2009 - In spite of national media coverage, walking in the El Paso area has not been affected by the violence in nearby Juarez, Mexico. No walks go into Mexico - but you can see it from most of the current walk routes. All walks are limited to daylight hours. We, as local walkers, continue to enjoy the walks and hope you will choose to join us.  

  

"D" Event - SW08/Y1135 - Downtown - 2 routes - 5km (3.1 miles) or 10km (6.2 miles) in length.
Qualifies as the following events: Courthouses of the USA, Railroad Heritage, and Riverwalk America.
 
Directions to Start/Finish Point & Parking - Visitors Bureau & Convention Center are located at One Civic Center Plaza (Santa Fe St.) Coming from New Mexico on I-10, take the Downtown/Santa Fe St. exit. Turn right on Santa Fe. Coming from east Texas, take the Downtown Mesa exit (exit 19A). Continue straight ahead to Santa Fe. St. Turn left. The Visitors Bureau is about a block ahead on the right in the Civic Center Complex. There may be metered parking along some side streets or continue to the covered parking garage about one block down Santa Fe St. All day parking is $4. From the parking garage, walk back up to street level. Turn left. Walk past the Juarez Trolley Stop. Look for the small stairway down to the Visitors Bureau.
 
 Start/Finish Times - Hours- Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, Sat and Sun 10am-3pm. Closed holidays.

Trail Rating -- The 5 & 10 km trails are flat (1+) on the sidewalks.  The course is suitable for strollers, wagons and wheelchairs.
 
Trail Description -- These walks will take you along the areas of historic El Paso where John Wesley Hardin and Pancho Villa once walked. Some sights along the trail are the Insights science museum, railroad museum, Art Museum, and courthouse.
 
Refreshments -- Water fountains and bathrooms are available at the bus station about 2 blocks from the start/finish. There are also facilities which sell food and drinks along the route.
 
Awards - "B" awards from previous years are available in the start box for $4.00 which includes IVV credit.
