Become a FAN! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ********************************************************************2ND ANNUAL KUNEKUNE CONFERENCE AND 1ST ANNUAL AKBA SHOW & SALE - To be held Aug. 24 & 25, 2012 ******************************************************************* The 2nd annual meeting of AKBA, affectionately known as the Kunekune Conference, will be held on August 24, 2012 (Friday) and hosted by Olde Reminisce Farms in Ontario, CA - home to the USA Herd of Kunekune Pigs. The following day, August 25 (Saturday) will be the first Annual AKBA Show & Sale which is sure to become one of the premier shows in this country. On Friday, attendees will benefit from the many presenters who will share their expertise in areas such as keeping and breeding Kunekune pigs, preventative medicine, hoof and tusk trimming, raising Kunekune Pigs for meat, marketing your pigs, successful and sustainable breeding programs, and more. There will be a demonstration of hoof and tusk trimming as well as instruction on how to move pigs, give injections, apply permanent forms of identification and methods in restraint and handling. Participants will get instruction on how to fit and show their Kunekune Pigs. The venue for the conference will be the main farm of Olde Reminisce Farms located in Ontario, California. The farm is only minutes from the Ontario International Airport and located in the heart of Southern California. There will be plenty for you and your family to do while taking in the conference. Day two, Saturday-August 25, will include the first ever AKBA Show & Sale where exhibitors and spectators will have the unique opportunity to see a multitude of "Kune Pigs" all in one place. Each of the entrants will be judged against the breed's Standard of Perfection and placed in order of how well they meet that standard. Swine judge, Val Houghton of Redmond, Oregon will be doing the honors. See below for projected classes: MARKET HOGS - Barrows - should be classed by weight. Depending upon how many entries you have, you can divide them into groups to show. If there are enough entries, you can divide by age as well. BREEDING SWINE - Boars - *Junior Boar Pig - Under six months of age. *Senior Boar Pig - Over six months of age, but not yet one year old. *Junior Yearling Boar - Over one year old, but less than eighteen months. *Senior Yearling Boar - At least eighteen months, but under two years old. *Aged Boar - Boars over two years old. *Junior Champion Boar - First prize winners of the senior and junior boar classes show for junior championship. *Senior Champion Boar - First prize winners of the aged, senior yearling, and junior yearling classes show for senior championship. *Grand Champion Boar - The senior champion shows against the junior champion for Grand Champion. *Reserve Grand Champion Boar - Second place in the Grand Championship class. Sows - *Junior Sow Pig - Under six months of age. *Senior Sow Pig - Over six months of age, but not yet one year old. *Junior Yearling Sow - Over one year old, but less than eighteen months. *Senior Yearling Sow - At least eighteen months, but under two years of age. *Aged Sow - Sows over two years old. *Junior Champion Sow - First prize winners of the senior and junior sow classes show for junior championship. *Senior Champion Sow - First prize winners of the aged, senior and junior yearling classes show for senior championship. *Grand Champion Sow - The senior champion shows against the junior champion for Grand Champion. *Reserve Grand Champion - Second place in the Grand Championship class. BEST OF SHOW: Winner of class consisting of Grand Champion Boar, Reserve Champion Boar, Grand Champion Sow, and Reserve Champion Sow - overall best in the show. Old herd - bred and owned by exhibitor. An old herd is composed of one boar and three sows. In an old herd the individuals may belong individually in any of the aged, senior yearling or junior yearling classes. Young Herd - bred and owned by exhibitor. A young herd is a boar and three gilts, belonging in either or both the junior or senior pig classes. Get of Sire - The Get of Sire group is composed of four animals, any age, of either or both sexes, the get of one boar. Produce of Dam - The Produce of Dam group consists of four individuals, any age, of either or both sexes, the produce of one dam. Classic Head - Judging the head only. Any age or sex (including castrated or spayed animals) can enter this class. Sow with Litter - Lactating sows judged with consideration of their litters. Fun Classes - anything that you can dream up.....costume, agility, etc. Cyndi Berry will be keeping point records and coordinate year end awards. Companion Animal Classes - Conformation of spayed or neutered pet Kunekunes pigs. Cyndi Berry will be keeping point records and coordinate year end awards. Note: When judging conformation classes, it is appropriate (but not required) to walk the pens for initial judging. Afterward, the pigs can be shown in a ring, moving, for the judges' examination.
