The American International Club (AIC) (formerly the Friends of America Club) was founded in 1996 in the city of Porto, Portugal, as a social bridge between cultures. Its focus is on "things American". English is the main language used at all events & meetings. Events are designed to appeal to a variety of interests, but the emphasis is on American holidays and celebrations. Portugal has a rich and varied multi-cultural history and continues to have many social, cultural and other links to the USA. English-speaking Portuguese people make up a large percentage of the AIC Club membership. The AIC Club also reaches out to expatriates who need help in adjusting to the challenges of living abroad. Its membership embraces people from all walks of life and includes many professionals who are available for information and advice to the newcomer. For those who make Portugal their home (temporarily or permanently), the AIC Club can help to broaden their base of contacts for business and/or social purposes. Children of American parents can grow in their understanding of English and be exposed to American traditions and customs, and make new friends. A Social Bridge between Cultures |
