extending fingers
extending fingers
Snow laden branches extending delicate fingers over my brow devise hollow silhouettes projecting heavy lines hear and now Another great line of cars obstructed my path this morning Giving me yet another opportunity to compose a little poetry. Remember Panta Rhei - everything is flowing, well, not too literally this morning -- traffic was flowing, very very slowly, perhaps like the unseen currents in this calm reflecting pool. The snow came down in droves, the hills and roads adorning My gaze averted straight ahead rejecting dismal symmetry so that I may hear the birds out a cracked window or see a line of snow upon a ridge above me nature is beauty when she wears white These plants extend over the reflecting pool at Phipps Conservatory. The reflection is the greenhouse roof. It seems the image from Phipps doesn't necessarily go with the poem, but I was delayed again in traffic this morning, and while maintaining my grip on calm, I listened to nature, viewed the grand Allegheny river, and wrote poetry. It was not a risky endeavor, however, because most of the time I was immobile.
Pince-nez 3
Pince-nez 3
Handsome young USA army officer in 1917 wearing a classic rimless fingerpiece pince-nez on the bridge of his nose. Pince-nez was the recommend eyewear for soldiers because of the easy use with gas masks. Introduced in the early 1900's, the fingerpiece was revolutionary in design. The fixed bridge, combined with spring nose guard grips which had tiny levers or fingerpieces which extended out and over the "straps" containing the lens screws, meant the pince-nez could be clipped on the bridge of the nose by using just the thumb and index finger. The "fingerpiece" pince-nez quickly became the most popular and stylish type of eyewear during the 1910's especially for younger people. The look of elegant simplicity is timeless.
