Hello! My name is Ambily and I am an accounting major here at
USF. I was born in India and I moved to Florida when I was 10 years old.
The shift from India to the US brought about several drastic changes in
my life. Everything was so
different from what it used to be: different language, different culture,
different customs and traditions, different dressing styles, different weather
and the list goes on. I started school a month after I
moved to the U.S. and I went from the
top of my class in India to the bottom in America. I had a hard time
keeping up
with what the teacher was saying and was embarrassed to ask questions
because
my English was not very good at the time. I was always behind and I had
to work twice as
hard to catch up with my classmates. But I worked hard and therefore was able to
pick up the language and assimilate to the new culture fairly quickly.
Thanks to my hard work, determination, and focus, I graduated from the 7th best high school in the nation at the time (IB at Bartow High School, Class of 2010) and here I am attending one of the nation's top research universities!
