Dr. Sadie Daniel St. Clair (one of the graduates here) died July, 1975 of an intestinal hemorrhage at the National Lutheran Home for the Aged. She was a retired professor at Washington Teachers College in Washington, DC. George Crawford, (one of the graduates mentioned here) died August 1, 1972 at 94 in New Haven. He was a trustee of Talladega College and of Howard University. He was a distinguished attorney on municipal law. The George W. Crawford Black Bar Assn in Hartford is named for him. Charles Eaton Burch, (one of the graduates mentioned here) died March 23, 1948 in Stamford, CT of a heart attack. He served as head of the Howard University Department of English for twenty years prior to his death. Vattel Elbert Daniel (one of the graduates mentioned here) died in 1971. He was a religious historian, publishing his PhD dissertation in 1928 on "Ritual in Chicago's South Side Churches for Negroes" Isaiah H. Bonner (one of the graduates mentioned here) became a Bishop in the AME Church. He resigned in 1976. Click the "All Sizes" button above to read an article or to see the image clearly. New Graduate? Or Newly married? Not sure. She's holding a scroll that could be a diploma but she is also wearing a nice wedding set on her left ring finger. I Think at the time of the photo wedding dresses mostly did not come in white and in fact were often black. Confirmation? If anybody has any thoughts let me know.
