The word Bhaal
(Gujarati: ભાલ; Hindi: भाल) seems to have been derived from the
Sanskrit word भाल which literary means "forehead". Such a name is given
to this region probably due to the fact that it is mostly as flat as a
forehead with almost entire region's soil without any stones, pebbles or
gravels. Bhaal region covers more than fifty villages and is spread between political boundaries of Bhavnagar & Ahmedabad districts. Entire region is only five to ten meters from the sea-level in height and that too without visible slope. Due to lack of slope, and being only few meters above the sea-level, the area remains inundated and becomes archipelago during monsoon but paradoxically, suffers from scarcity of water during rest of the year. |
