Academic Life
I am a second-year computer science MS student in the Emory University Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Previously, in 2006, a received a BA in computer science from Hendrix College, with a minor in mathematics. In 2004, I studied Asian Studies at Kansai Gaidai University (関西外国語大学). More about this is on my resume.
Last summer, I taught two three-week sessions of computer programming for the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) for high school students. The course materials are archived here.
At Emory, I have taken the classes Systems Programming, Natural Language Processing, Data Mining, Algorithms, Information Retrieval, Compiler Construction, and Theory of Computation, while this semester I am taking Operating Systems, and Data Privacy and Security.
At the moment, my primary interests are in the general areas of natural language processing and text mining.
Other Personal Interests
I have too many interests. When I was in high school, I decided to write a series of science fiction novels. You can buy the one that I managed to write here. I subsequently picked up some keyboarding skills, somehow, and began composing music to accompany the novel. You can download it here.
I have some version music->color synesthesia; so, I'm also interested in synesthesia. I also have touch->auditory and color->taste synesthesia. The latter I generally notice only for extremely vivid colors. So, if you'd ever like to know how your music looks or how your painting tastes, I may be able to help.
