New Mexico Tech Earth and Environmental Science Department 801 S. Leroy Box 3606 Socorro, NM 87801 aluther1228@nmt.edu I am a geology graduate student at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, NM. My currently research focuses on fault zone evolution and fault rock mechanics. I have three projects in New Mexico and Southern California. The bulk of my work focuses on fault rocks from low angle normal faults. I am doing an extensive structural and chemical study of fault rocks from the West Salton Detachment system and the Whipple Mountains Detachment. The goal is to understand why these faults slip, despite being highly misoriented from the regional principal stresses. These are termed "weak" faults. This study has significance for seismic hazards, particularly because faults such as the San Andreas are a part of this "weak" fault category. See my CV, click the link on the left. |
