Students have certain traditions. Go to class. Take notes. Read the assignments. Cram for exams. Write papers. Sometimes these traditions can be stressful, but at least for members of Sigma Tau Delta, they also afford the opportunity to absorb, create, and discuss all things English. Then you graduate, and those traditions are replaced with different, though hopefully better paying, traditions. Get a job, do your boss’s bidding, pay your bills (including that pesky student loan!). But what about those opportunities to discuss all things English? The real world shouldn’t negate those, but too often it does. Alumni Epsilon is about starting new traditions, ones that can still be a part of your life even once you’ve graduated. If you’ve ever experienced a Sigma Tau Delta convention, you know how incredible the experience is. The ideas that are shared and the friends that are made linger long after the weekend is over. At the St. Louis Convention this past March, the Alumni Epsilon Chapter sponsored the first ever Sigma Tau Delta resume workshop for students as a way to give back to the organization as a whole. As graduate students or members of the workforce, Alumni Epsilon members have valuable experience and advice to share with those preparing to follow in their footsteps. Thanks to those who participated, both on the panel and by attending, for making it such a success! It’s a tradition that will continue in Pittsburgh and beyond.
With both The Sigma Tau Delta Review and The Sigma Tau Delta Rectangle, members have had the opportunity to see their work published. Alumni Epsilon members are about to be included in that tradition, too, as plans are in motion to launch an online alumni-produced journal next spring! More details, including the submission process and deadline, will be announced in the fall edition of the Alumni Epsilon Newsletter, so be looking for it. Let’s start a new set of traditions. Let’s not forget the creative writing, the study of literature, the bad poetry contests. Join Alumni Epsilon and be a part of these new traditions!
Best,
