Emmaus College Alumni News - Issue 3 December 2009

The third issue of the college Alumni news is out. Amongst other news, the college is looking for work experience opportunities for current year 10 students, can you help?

There is an Emmaus 30 year celebration on the 13th March 2010, if you missed our reunion tour, or would like to show your family your alma mater, this is your opportunity.

You are also encouraged to fill out the alumni data sheet for the college alumni records, this will help them to get any general alumni information directly to you.

The alumni newsletter is also interested in what you are up to now and would like past pupils to contribute to the newsletter.  It would be good to see a couple of our Old Boys featuring in future publications.

Don't forget our Old Boys 1st Annual Dinner, details were emailed to you and are listed below.

1st Annual More College 1968 Old Boys Dinner

At an informal gathering at Boothy's the other night, we decided that we didn't want to waste all the hard yakka put into organising the reunion so we thought that an annual dinner would be the go. Nothing too flash, just mates having a meal and laugh together.

You should all all have received an email by now, (except the 7 people who have changed their email address's),  but in short, we are reserving the first Friday in February every year to have a dinner someplace.

This year it's at the Wantirna Club near Knox Shopping Centre.  Just ring the Wantirna Club on 9801 5555, and tell them the date, 5th February 2010, and that you would like a seat (or two) at the More College Old Boys table. Make sure you leave your name too. Wives, partners, girlfriends or better halves are most welcome!

Google in their wisdom migrated all the Google pages to a place called Google sites.

This has caused us to lose all our front page notes, it appears that some of the 'Contents' pages are damaged but I should be able to repair them in time.

Bastards!

Anyway,  moving onwards ....

Edit: I have recovered most of it from Google cache, now to repair it!

          All fixed !! Yay

Oh what a night !!!

Paul Tyrrell's band, Up In Arms, is playing again at the Kew RSL in Cotham Road, Kew. Ian & myself went along last time and can highly recommend them. The beer was cheap, the sausages were great, well worth the $10 surcharge.

 29th March, THIS SUNDAY 4pm – 7pm

$10 entry with plates of nibbles or BBQ included. Drinks are at good RSL prices. Good venue, good atmosphere, great band.

I intend to go again so if you're up for it, come along.

Let us know on the Greetings page if you're coming.

Cheers, Pete

Old Boys Employment Request

These current times are hard for some and small though we are, we'd like to think that we can help. Our Old Boys network has over 80 members and we are asking everyone to help.

We have some requests asking for help in regards to jobs.

An Old Boy is looking for a job for his son who finished his VCE at Emmaus in 2007 and has recently finished his pre apprenticeship for electrical and is currently unable to find work. He is looking for work as an electrician but is willing to take on any work that is available. He is a hard worker, honest and reliable. We can be contacted confidentially for further details.

If you have any leads on available jobs please let John, Graeme, Paul or Pete know so we can pass on the information and contact can be made.

If your contact details change, please let me know so I can update the Old Boys database. I'll resend an updated list to everyone on a regular basis.

Cheers, Pete

Happy New Year !!

Since the reunion it has been magnificent to hear about guys catching up with old school buddies

John Green visited and stayed with Ken Gale in Bangkok, Ken found things to show John that most will have never   seen         – nough said !

Paul Game caught up with Martin Hill who you may recall unfortunately had an accident the day before the reunion.
Mr and Mrs G spent a great couple of nights enjoying the Mitta Mitta wilderness.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Ian Jorgenson & Peter Mac met up at the Kew RSL and watched Paul Tyrrell and his band.                                                                                                                                                                                                                          And how about Johnny Dauska not seeing Robert Hiedinger for years and years , then the  reunion and then they bump into each other at Knox City a few weeks ago !!

Make the effort guys and keep in touch with your old school buddies and let us know what you're doing.
You will get lots out of it, we are !

The reunion photos are all online and look great, the night was a raging success which was enjoyed by all and the Sunday BBQ was a fitting way to cap it all off. Thanks to everyone for making it such a great weekend.

23  December 2008

The reunion night photos are finally in and I will soon have all 247 of them up on the site, gimme a day or 2. I'll email a webpage update when they are done.

You'll see lots of pictures of the Sunday BBQ at the college here. Thanks to Cookie, Cleary, Green & Pluto for sending me those. Keep 'em coming guys, there were more camera's than those four!

Cookie has added a 'Prequel' to his ongoing adventures on Ho Ho Island, you'll find the story here.

John Green is recently back from visiting Ken Gale in Bangkok, you'll find a picture here and a few words from John.

Ian Jorgensen, myself and my GLW went and saw Paul Tyrrell's band, Up in Arms, at the Kew RSL. It was well worth it, for $10 we got a great afternoons entertainment, a feed, met Pauls fantastic lady and got stuck into some nice cold ale. We'll be going along to see the band again and hope some of you will be able to join us. Paul is keeping us informed with gig dates.

Get into our 'Old Boys' network, send me some information about your business for inclusion on our links page. Eventually your business will appear on Google search and may help get more business your way.  (Don't forget 'mates rates' for Old Boys).

Let us know what happening in your life and send those day to day photos in to share.

Cheers, Pete

'The Holy Grail'

An excerpt from our Greetings Page

Date:  July 27, 2008, 6:34 pm
Name:  Undisclosed anonymous contributor
Location:  The Hole in the Wall

Yes, it is 'The Holy Grail', THE missing link, etc. etc. THE piece of "The Stolen Strap of Robbo". And not just any piece, the tip, the end piece, the best part, the creme de la creme of strap pieces.

I now wish not to reveal my true identity because I realise there is an indefinite statute of limitations on theft (or actually I think it was called larceny in them thar days) and criminal damage. One wouldn't like to implicate ones self in such illegal heist.....would one?

To prove the actual existance of the 'Grail' and to validate that this is not merely a hoax, I have forwarded a photo to Pete Mac for posting on the site.

I have had a person I once met to forward the photo so my identity will not be compromised. His name is Jim, Jack, James er.... no I think John Byeersss, or something similar. A dim witted, slow, an unintelligent human being who wouldn't be smart enough to be involved in such an intricately planned crime.

The piece of strap was found is a very unexpected place when I was looking for another unrelated item. Suddenly there it was. God moves in mysterious ways. Or was it Robbo who wanted it found???????

The story behind the picture ..... The Holy Grail

17 July 2008

Cookie was on a lightning visit to Melbourne, landing at 9.00 in the morning en route from Tassie, he was picked up at Melbourne Airport for his 1 pm appointment in Doncaster by Peter Mackie.

Unbeknownst to Mr Cook, Greenie, Boothy and Macca decided to gate crash and with preplanned stealth and cunning disguised themselves as ordinary everyday idiots hiding behind newspapers at a nearby table. It took all of about 60 seconds before they were sprung by a pleasantly surprised Cookie.

It was a great hour renewing friendships before we left Cookie to freshen up for his appointment. Thanks to Peter Mackie for keeping our plans of stealth a secret and for helping Cookie out as taxi driver for the day.  The pictures can be seen here.

7 July 2008

Thank you to Archivist Br John O'Halloran CFC, who has sent us some photographs of the college. These photographs have been scanned from old slides, links to these can be found on the Photographs page.

For those who are wondering . . .  CFC stands for 'Congregatio Fratrum Christianorum' which is the latin for 'Congregation of Christian Brothers.'

4 July 2008                                                   IMPORTANT

G'day all. An email was sent to everyone today, it is important that we get a reply from you as soon as possible so that we can move into the next stage of organising the reunion. If you didn't get the email it's because we haven't got your email address yet. If this is the case, please let us know now.  Sixty-six emails were sent and we were getting replies within minutes. Thanks guys.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

18 June 2008

Last Sunday, your Reunion Organisers and their 'better halves' met for lunch. We thought we'd share the photo's with you all. Just go to the photograph's section to take a look. If you are looking for somewhere nice to dine, we reckon you should check this local winery out.

Keep those payments coming in guys. If you are an interstate, overseas or country classmate and you are visiting Melbourne, let us know. We can arrange an afternoon or evening 'gathering'.

Some people have reported that our web pages have been a bit 'messed up' lately. After investigation, it appears that only users of Internet Explorer 6 are affected, all I can suggest is that you upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox

Cheers Graeme, Paul, John, Pete

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

16 June 2008Update: More photos added

Some new photos have been added guys, if you don't recognise the two mongrels gracing our front page then click your way to the photographs page for the scoop.

Funds are already rolling in to finance our Reunion weekend, the payment instructions are detailed in the Info Pack we emailed to you and would be appreciated by July 31st. If you have lost your copy of the Info Pack, let one of us know and we'll send you another.

Cheers Pete, Graeme, Paul & John

1 May 2008

We've added a new picture to our Mugs Alley. The Mystery Man is travelling incognito and challenges you all to identify him. Post your guess on the greetings page, there may be a beer in it for the correct guesser. Come on guys, you can do it, make up a slide show and send me the link or send in a few pictures and I'll do it for you.

Happy Birthday today to Ian Scholes.

24 April 2008

We have another addition to the 'Mugs Alley' slideshow display and I know of a couple more on the way.  Keep em coming guys.  You can either make your own slideshow on one of the many websites like Photobucket and send me the link, or just send me some pictures via email and I'll make a slideshow for you.

A Message from  Cookie

Following on from a suggestion I made, Pete has made a new page for showing a snapshot of our lives. Just click on the Photographs link for your trip to 'Mugs Alley'. I have started the ball rolling and want you guys to send him some photos of yourselves so he can stick 'em up for us all to see your mugshots.

See you at the reunion, Cookie

** Another option is to make your own slideshow on your Photobucket page or similar and email the slideshow link to me and I'll put the link on our 'Mugs Alley' page.

Cheers, Pete

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 April 2008

Only 18 people to go guys, take a look at our 'Missing Persons' page and see if you can help us out.

Word has it that an old tuckshop price list has been found (Pies 14 cents), along with other items, we will have these on the memorabilia table at the Reunion. Rummage through your drawers and see what you can dig out.

On a serious note, we have 2 questions for you all.

1. Are you happy to have your contact details passed on to other classmates ?

2. Are you happy to have your contact details passed on to Emmaus College Alumni for them to add you to their database ? (This would save you filling out the form attached to the Alumni News).

Let one of us know with a phone call or return email please. Our contact details are on the Contacts page.

Finally, a reminder for you all to take a look at the message below.

Cheers, Pete

31 January 2008

Thanks to a suggestion from Peter Tyrrell, we have added a page for you to share your stories from More College. Alternatively you could just say hi and let us all know what's happening in your part of the world and what you've been doing these last 35 years.

A Memorabilia page has also been added so if you have anything to show us, take a picture and mail it to me for inclusion.

We are still looking for a photo of Form 3 Gold. If you have one, it would be appreciated if you could email us a copy.

We have located about 30% of the 80 or so people from our group, if you know anyone on our 'Missing Persons' page, please let 'em know we're looking for them.

Cheers, Pete

There are numerous bits of memorabilia out there we've heard so if you can take a picture of any 'items' they can go up too.

We have also added the 'Missing Persons' list, if you have any information on those listed, it would appreciated if you'd let us know.

Cheers, Pete
