I started the bodywork on the lower body by removing everything and sanding it down. A coat of epoxy primer was then sprayed to seal in the old gel coat and provide a better surface for the paint to adhere to. A metal strip was then fabricated and added to the lip around the body by fiberglassing it into place.. After that a coat of fill and sand primer was added so a smooth surface would be available for the paint. The lower body was then painted a metallic orange followed by a black stripe along the bottom. The decal was added and the lower body was then covered with 4 coats of clear. The clear was then color sanded and buffed. It turned out very nice. (click on images for larger view)
