How do I join a Greek Organization?
One great way to start on your road towards Greek Life is to participate in Recruitment. The process for joining a Greek organization is called "Recruitment" or "Intake", but oftentimes you will hear it referred to as "Rush". During Recruitment, students meet members of the various Greek organizations. Typically, each organization presents information describing their activities, goals, and objectives. Students are able to gather further insight as to the mission of each group. Ideally, Recruitment aims to provide information to assist students in making choices and decisions as to future affiliation with Greek letter organizations. The Recruitment/Intake process varies from campus to campus. At Pace, we have what's called a Deferred Recruitment process for traditional new member education. Deferred recruitment delays, or defers, the joining process for all organizations until January. The delayed joining process allows students to adjust to Pace during Fall semester while researching involvement opportunities and focusing on academics. Once students have earned a 2.5 GPA and 12 college/university credit hours, they are eligible to receive a membership invitation from any of our University-recognized fraternities and sororities. As a first year student, you do have the ability to enter the greek community through a program called R.E.T.A.I.N.
Joining a fraternity or sorority requires making an educated decision about the organization of which you will be a life-long member. As you begin talking with Greek members, it’s often useful to be educated on the lingo. Our Greek Terminology page will be a helpful tool as you begin the process of recruitment. The Greek community encourages you to utilize both local and chapter websites, as well as asking the following questions of organizational leaders and individual members:
