
Placing an Order
To place an order for new memberships (or merchandise), please fill out the AKD Order Form and List of Initiates
Form located at the bottom of this page. Note: Click "Download" to open
the file.
| Below you may find steps in regards to identifying, inviting, and inducting new AKD members! Please let us know if you ever have any questions with the process as we will be happy to help.
Step 1: Identify Eligible MembersTo identify
eligible members, compile a list of current junior and senior sociology majors
and minors (undergraduate and graduate students). If needed, contact your school’s registrar
office for a cutoff list of those sociology students who are in the top 35% of
their graduating class, or an overall GPA of 3.3, and have a minimum 3.0 sociology GPA (graduate students
must have an overall 3.0 GPA). If your school’s registrar office cannot provide
you with the top 35% ranking, instead use 3.3 overall GPA in its place. (See

Step 2: Inviting Eligible Members
Once you have identified all students
who are eligible, send an invitation for membership letter and application to
those candidates. Select a deadline for students to return their application
form and payment. Membership fee is $40.00. Let students know that they may
purchase honor cords, lapel pins, and other AKD paraphernalia at an additional
cost (see AKD Order Form).
Step 3: Inducting Eligible Members and Placing an Order with the Executive Office
Prepare and mail the following items to the AKD Executive Office (forms located at bottom of this page under 'attachments'):
- AKD
Order Form
- AKD
List of Initiates. Include the initiation date you would like printed
on members’ certificates. Ensure all names are spelled correctly; it is a
$10 fee to have certificates reprinted.
- One
Check or Money Order. Individual student checks will not be accepted.
- (Optional) Activation Forms. You may send in your students' activation forms with an order. If not, we will e-mail you a copy with your order confirmation.
Note: Please plan accordingly as certificates and membership cards can take up
to 3-4 weeks to be printed and shipped. Merchandise takes about 1 week.
Note: Please limit orders to once a semester.
Remember: Students are not official AKD members until we receive the proper paperwork and fees.
Please note the following:
Payment
- Pay by a single check or money order made payable to Alpha Kappa Delta.
Only institutional checks, checks cut from chapter's bank accounts, or
money orders will be accepted. If you cannot arrange one of these
options, a single check cut from the faculty chapter representative’s
personal account can be accepted.
- We cannot accept credit cards as our Society is too small to set up this system at this time.
- Orders containing individual student checks will be returned.
- Do not send cash.
- If a business office is involved in the transaction, make sure both the
order form and the payment reach the AKD office together. We will not
process orders until payment in full is received.
Chapter Representative Renewal- Officers and Chapter Representatives must maintain active membership. One must be active for our office to fill an order.
- Please note that Sociological Inquiry subscriptions are entered on a
calendar-year basis only.
- Subscription forms received prior to
September 1 will receive all issues of the current volume.
- For
subscription forms received after September 1, the subscription will
begin with the first issue of the next volume in the following calendar
year.
- Please send in your renewal form and payment by the start
of the 2012 calendar year to ensure active status for your chapter.
Activation FormsPlease do not use this form as a membership application form. This is to be used for recently inducted members of AKD only. Please have your students fill this form out for them to receive their one free year of Sociological Inquiry as
well as communication from the Executive Office. This form may be sent
in with an AKD Order Form and List of Initiates form (when placing an
order) or after you have placed an order with the Executive Office.
MerchandiseSee our
merchandise flyer attached below. Please share this with your students
by posting it outside your office door, giving it to them with the
initiation package, or handing it out at your AKD ceremony. Spread the
word of our merchandise! Students love to show off their honor cord at graduation. Pictures of our merchandise
can also be seen by clicking here.
Note: Our
Order Form and List of Initiates form are meant to be filled out
electronically to decrease any errors. The Order Form will
automatically add your prices.
Note: Please do not send
membership applications to our office. These are meant to be kept for your records as chapter representative.
