For many, Art represents the agony and the ecstasy of childhood. It captivates, terrifies; fascinates, frustrates; enchants, tortures. My Aim: - to increase understanding, knowledge and self confidence in children through the medium of mosaic art - to give opportunities for success within the Primary age range at individual ability levels In an ideal world all children would believe they could achieve in some area of Art or Design, but the reality is, (and many class teachers will confirm this) as they grow older, the majority of children will say, ‘Oh, I can’t draw, paint, make models,’ etc. Those who don’t may not see art as a long term prospect, but rather as something to be ‘done at school’. Shirley understands the need to provide opportunities within an educational setting for as many worthwhile experiences as possible within the framework of the Art and Design Curriculum. Children can make a design as simple or as complicated as they feel able to cope with, knowing the outcome will always look good. They can work individually, in pairs or in small groups for support and encouragement I work on school projects, class projects; with staff, parents, governors, to enhance the Art and Design curriculum. With older children finding out about and practising the ancient and modern mosaic techniques provides stimulation and satisfaction. With younger children working with paper, card, fabric etc gives them opportunities to produce a worthwhile and beautiful piece of artwork every time. Whether you are a parent, teacher, subject leader, governor, youth leader or just interested in children and art, please feel free to contact me for further information or to discuss informally your ideas and/or requirements. |
