The Church
When we decided to have the wedding in Louisville, the church we would have it in was an easy decision. St. Francis in the Fields is the church his family has always attended and the minister married his parents and several other members of his family. Plus it is so beautiful, holds plenty of people, and was available on the date we wanted.
The church is really old but has been added on to so the old outside wall makes the door to the sanctuary.
Inside everything is white and dark wood with lots of light... everything is very simple but its so big I dont think I want to try to compete - it would cost a fortune to do something big enough. We will probably put up some simple pew decorations and altar arrangements.
Wedding Colors
The wedding colors will be chocolate brown, champagne, and ivory. I want it to have an elegant, vintage feel.
The above champagne swatch is a little more yellow than I wanted it to be but its the closest thing i could find.
We'll do the linens in chocolate brown, bridesmaid's dresses will be chocolate and champagne and all the flowers will be shades of ivory, cream, white and champagne.
The Reception Venue
After searching for a couple months and finding out more about many places in Louisville than I ever really needed to know, we made a decision to have our reception across the river in Indiana. I wanted our guests (many of whom are from out of town) to be able to stay downtown and wanted a reception venue close by. However, most of the sites I found downtown were didn't fit the budget, didnt have any availability, or were just ugly. But finally, I found a listing for a place just across the river that was perfect.
We found an old mansion on "mansion row" just across the river in Indiana and the people are great and so accomodating.

The wedding party will come in the front door of the mansion but our guests will come in through the main entrance on the side of the building. The banquet hall was actually an addition to the mansion added on in mid-1900s. We will be announced from the patio of the original house overlooking the banquet room and come down the stairs. The dome ceiling is one of my favorite things, it really lends a romantic atmosphere to the room so it doesn't seem so big. It seats about 300 people in total but we will only seat 8 people per table since our guest list should be between 150 - 200 people so we still fill the room but people have plenty of room. We'll put the DJ on the stage and leave the center of the room open for the dance floor. They supply us with linens in five different color choices and lucky for me they have a perfect chocolate brown color so we will do white floor length linens with chocolate brown toppers. We aren't sure yet if we want to do the chair covers or not. I'm leaning towards no but if we do them I think I want to add a colored sash to break up all the white. I think it may be too much though.

There is another room just off to the left of the picture that is an old bar they call the "Cheers" bar. It will be a great place for guests to sit and talk without being in the midst of the dancing and music. They have inhouse catering at affordable prices and an outdoor courtyard that they set up with patio tables, umbrellas, and lights for smokers or those who just want to go outside.
