The internet has varied resources for RPGs and gamers. I will list a number of resources I find useful. Phantom Nightmares: an OWOD chronicle played on IRC. On-Line Gaming Options Darkmyst IRC: IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a program that is different from standard chat boxes. Darkmyst, my choice of servers, has numerous options for playing on-line, text-based RPGs. Similar to table top. There are options to register nicks, so you have your own, and options for registered nick users to claim personal chat rooms. The personalized chatroom allows the owner/moderators to keep the peace and boot offensive chatters. It also has options for dice rolling and rps conflict resolution. A simple code typed in, with Gameserv active, will generate a random number or rps as request. Everything from 1d3 to 1d100 is right there. It makes gaming with local friends and not so local friends very easy. Darkmyst has a Chat Now option that will allow access to a browser-based chat. I recommend downloading a personal program. There are lots of options, but I prefer IceChat, a free program. (Please download at your own risk.) IRC Gaming Dungeons and Dragons Wizard's of the Coast: This is the official website for the wonderful people who bring us Dungeons and Dragons. This site has wonderful information on books, release dates and various game-related products. d20 Open Source Information: This page offers information on the legal requirements of using d20 Open Source material. The Hypertext d20 SRD: This website is based off d20 Open Source material. While not exact to the 3.0-3.5 books, it allows running the game with information on the website. (Please remember to still support Wizard's of the Coast even with using available free information.) Javascript D&D 3.5 Character Generator: This website is wonderful for creating 3.5 D&D characters. It is a form to fill out that generates a character sheet in an HTML window. It is important to copy and paste the generated character sheet into a word processing program to save and modify. Please note that if you have MS Works, or a program that crashes when C&Ping data into it, that it is necessary to "paste special" to avoid crashing the word processor during the transfer. The sheet will need some editing to remove excess spaces and tables that I guess were suppose to be graphics that don't come with it. I really like it. The page does take getting used to. You cannot go back and make changes after clicking a button to continue. Also, do not start making your character until the page has completely loaded, you will lose it. There is an option near the top of the page that if it does not load correctly a simpler form is available. (Please note that the website offers information from a number of sources. I have found that some mechanics listed, such as half-dragon breath weapons, are not completely accurate. Sheets need to be reviewed for this. But it is still worth it.) Javascript D&D 4.0 Character Generator: This website was created by the same group that has the 3.5 generator. The information above about how to C&P sheet that are generator applies to this one also. I am unsure if this website's information is completely book accurate; please review your sheets. Mathemagician.net: This site, recommended by SeverinR on Legendfire, has a random town generator for fantasy worlds. It was recommended for building fantasy worlds in writing, but I felt it would work here to. White Wolf White Wolf Online: This is the official website for the wonderful people who bring us OWOD and NWOD. This site has information on books, release dates and various other White Wolf related information. It has information on the Camarilla, the official White Wolf fan club. It also has information for creating websites/on-line content using copyrighted White Wolf information; its not painful. Mind's Eye Society. Grapevine: This page has the link to download the grapevine program. (Please download at your own risk.) This program is for creating OWOD LARP-style characters and managing game information. It does not replace having a book. It allows a player to keep track of his/her sheet and has a specific file type that allows exporting a sheet and emailing to the ST to upload into grapevine for review. It also creates rtf sheets for print out. For STs, it has organization options for everything from sheets to plots to location descriptions. I consider the WW OWOD ST's best friend. Google Doc spreadsheet cs for Werewolf the Apocalypse (for general werewolf characters.) Pathfinder SRD (Complete online rules resource for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game) Pathfinder Zyndell's Lab: is a brief section I wrote breaking down some pieces of this website. |
