A friend on Illyriad recommended I find links to random name generators and add them to my sites. I had never seen one before. Curious, I dropped "random name generator" in Google and found some new toys. Basic Generators The Random Name Generator: This wonderfully simple generator asks for gender, number of names to be generated and has an obscurity factor from 1 to 99. It includes both first names and surnames. Generate a Random Name: This generator is more advanced with three options: gender, ethnicity and county. It has an advanced option as well. (Note, apparently, this is not a name generator but a fake identity generator. It will still work.) Serendipity: This site has a number of simple name generators broken down by different criteria. Random Name Generator: It has two drop down boxes and limited choices, to generate from, but it has potential. Totro, the Fantasy Random Name Generator: Very simple generator for creating fantasy or science fiction names. Random Name Generator: This is another simple one with three options: number of names to generate, gender and commonality of name. Advanced Generators Behind the Name, Random Name Generator: This generator has more options, including: ethnic origin, mythology ancient, historical/literary, and miscellaneous. Amusing Generators Seventh Sanctum: While I never consider this sight more than amusement, it has a large range of options, including random name generators. If nothing else, the results will amuse you. Fantasy Name Generator: I placed this one in amusing, not because its similar to Seventh Sanctum but because of its presentation and options. It looks promising but its design is amusing. (Also has an advanced option.) SQUIDorg, Random Name Generator: This seems to have pre-generated lists. It could have some use, but some of the results are amusing. The Naque for Unique Names: I found this one more amusing than useful, but it has some potential. One option allows the user to enter five words. It uses those words to randomly generate original names. |
