Alaska: Parent to Parent - Inspiring HopeDo You Dream Of a Day.....?
If you have dreamed of a day where parents are recognized for their strengths, supported in their concerns and connected by their stories -- you need to check out this valuable resource. The Alaska Children's Trust, The Alaska Office of Children's Services and Strengthening Families Alaska have partnered together to design a guide for interested teams who want to design and host a Parent's Day that will further their vision for their own communities. Some of the steps in this process that are shared in the toolkit are: - Create Local Planning Team
- Determine Need
- Design Parent's Day
- Inform and Invite
- Host the Day
- Follow-Up and Evaluation
- Continuing the Momentum
The flow of the day is built upon the Strengthening Families Protective Factors framework in a gentle, informative and engaging way.
An Example of an Activity in the Toolkit:
Protective Factors Logic Model and Walk-About Introduce the Protective Factors with parent-friendly language: - Ask participants to think about the strategies they they use to build those protective factors in their own lives. Share some personal examples.
- Have five large sheets of paper posted on the wall with one Protective Factor listed on each. Participants are asked to move throughout the room, writing on each page and addressing this question: How do you build this protective factor in your own life?
- When this exercise is finished, debrief each protective factor with the large group. Do these make a significant difference in your life? What were some of the good ideas? Do you see things in common with each other? Do these protective factors overlap? Anything you want to try when you go home?
There are many other wonderful activities, ideas and suggestions for organizing your own parent-led event. Download the full document by clicking on this link.

Bringing The Protective Factors Framework to Life in Your Work: A Resource for ActionBringing the Protective Factors Framework To Life In Your Work --
A Resource For Action It was good to see many of you at the recent meetings in Washington,
D.C. Some of you requested information on the Alliance's new training
resource, Bringing the Protective Factors Framework to Life in Your Work: A Resource for Action,
that you can forward to and share with current and potential partners.
Attached please find a one-page information sheet. In addition, we
have created two more sharing resources for your use:
Please use these for your own purposes and feel free to contact us at onlinetraining@ctfalliance.org if you have questions or concerns. We hope these resources will be helpful to you.
Have You Seen The New Video Library of "Resources For Action"?"Resources For Action" Video Series Now on Alliance website! All of the videos from the "Resources For Action" (R4A) series are now available on the Alliance website. Please take the opportunity to view all of them -- none are more than 15 minutes in length. When the R4A series was introduced in June at the SF Leadership Summit, the Arkansas Better Beginning video wasn't yet ready to be shared. The Alliance team wanted to share this brand new resource with you here. The Arkansas
Children’s Trust Fund partnered with the Arkansas
Department of Human Services, Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education, and the Alliance to produce this 15-minute video introducing the
Strengthening Families Protective Factors framework to
early care and education professionals participating in the
Arkansas QRIS – Better Beginnings. The video
gives a comprehensive overview of the Protective Factors
framework that is available for other states that might need
an easily accessible means for introducing practitioners and
professionals to the protective factors. Click here to view. The Community Cafe Guide For Hosts:Changing The Lives Of Children Through Conversations That Matter
Click here to examine a wonderful new resource which has long been awaited by many who are thoughtfully planning to partner with parents through the Community Cafe strategy. Alaska's R4A -- "Community Cafes: Revealing Unforeseen Partnerships" (both the paper and the accompanying DVD) -- was conceived with the idea of utilizing the hosting guide as a companion piece. Now all of these pieces are in place for your use. There is yet another R4A that will help assist you in your work to partner with parents and to create a sustainable and vital work. Very soon we will also be able to share "A Guide To Forming A Community Cafe Leadership Team" which comes to us through the Washington State CTF's partnership with their Community Cafe Leadership Team. Please look for it very soon.
